MEDITATION RETREAT
At Canadian Mennonite University campus, CMU Residence, Winnipeg MB
Dates: July 12 – July 18, 2010
Led by Victor Klassen
Victor Klassen, grew up in a Manitoba Mennonite community. Victor has completed the basic 15-day
course in Vipassana meditation as developed and taught by Ajong Tong, a Buddhist monk from
Thailand. As well he has completed 12 ten-day retreats under the guidance of various teachers in this
technique. Victor, although not a Buddhist, has been authorized to teach the meditation technique as
taught in this tradition. Since he is not a Buddhist there are no Buddhist rituals or ceremonies included
in this instruction. Meditation in its original Pali, means mental culture. Its object is to purify and
strengthen the mind and body. This technique does not require a belief system or adherence to any
creeds. For the practice we take on certain restrictions whose sole purpose is to help the practice itself.
There is no religious content to the technique itself, people from different religious traditions find that
they incorporate and interpret their individual insights into their own spiritual tradition. Vipassana
meditation is both walking and sitting meditation.
Although meditation has been found helpful with stress, depression and anxiety, its underlying essence
is the unraveling of our essential spiritual nature, an indescribable state that is the foundation of our
true being.
The cost for the week will be between $450 and $500 depending on single or double room occupancy.
This includes the teacher's costs only, as he does not charge for instruction. Donations are accepted.
Minimum number of registrations is 7, maximum of 20 persons can be accommodated.
For more information or questions please call K. Martens @ 204 - 269-3002 or e-mail
gertmart@mts.net to register.
